Officine Panerai Celebrates 10 YEARS OF PASSION for Classic Sailing with the launch of the

LUMINOR SUBMERSIBLE 1950 3 DAYS AUTOMATIC TITANIO – 47mm (PAM 571)

This year marks the milestone 10th anniversary of Officine Panerai's title sponsorship of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge – a series that has grown to 11 classic yachting regattas all over the world which pays tribute to the brand's historic connection to the sea.  To celebrate these 10 Years of Passion for classic sailing in North America, Panerai will host Sailing Competitors, VIP Clients and Press at their three regattas in New England, which comprise the PCYC North American Circuit. To further commemorate 10 Years of Passion, Officine Panerai has unveiled the Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio – 47 MM (PAM 571), a unique Special Edition timepiece which will be limited to only 50 pieces worldwide.

The PCYC North American Circuit consists of three classic sailing contests - the Corinthian Classic Yacht Regatta (August 9th – 10th, Marblehead, MA), the Opera House Cup (August  17th, Nantucket, MA) and the Museum of Yachting Classic Yacht Regatta (August 30th – 31st, Newport, RI).

Each regatta is run by individual Organizing Authorities and, as such, adhere to their own rules regulations while simultaneously collaborating with the North American PCYC to determine rules and regulations for the entire Circuit, which has become a reality thanks to the efforts of everyone involved.

Panerai's interest in these exquisite and daring sea-faring competitions dates back to its early military history in the Mediterranean. In March 1936, the commandos of the Italian Navy tested the first Officine Panerai diving timepiece prototype, created in response to the military's request to develop a luminous underwater watch. From that point on, Officine Panerai has been associated with the sea, and admired for the historic and innovative instruments and watches the company has been producing for more than a century. In North America, Paneraihas been celebrating the Brand's nautical roots since 2006 by bringing together the captains and crews of some of the world's most majestic classic sailing vessels for three weekends of feisty competition, skill-sharing, sportsmanship and camaraderie off the beautiful coastline of New England. Last year in Nantucket, Panerai unveiled its new Panerai Hospitality Lounge, which is architecturally inspired by a wooden boat and is outfitted with relaxed-elegant Italian furnishings and nautical objects, offering a congenial, welcoming atmosphere for racing participants to unwind and cool down after a heated competition on the sea.

Each of these magnificent regattas typically attracts between 50 and 60 classic sailing vessels from ports around the world, with prizes awarded to individual class winners and a Panerai timepiece given to the best performing boat of each regatta. The coveted Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge North American Circuit Trophies — two elegant sculptures reminiscent of a classic sailboat — will be presented to the all-encompassing champion of all three regattas in both the Vintage and Grand Prix divisions at the final N.A. Circuit Prize-Giving Ceremony, to be held at Newport's Museum of Yachting regatta on Sunday, August 31st at Fort Adams State Park. Last year, BLACK WATCH, a 1938 Sparkman & Stephens yawl, took home the 2013 PCYC North American Circuit Trophy for Best Overall Performance in the Series.

Community Tie-ins

As has become tradition, Panerai North America hosts smaller events to allow the local communities to experience the company's passion for classic sailing. Each morning before the racing begins, local sailing enthusiasts are invited to stop by the Panerai Hospitality Lounge at 8:30 AM for "Cappuccino with the Captains " – to meet some of the boat owners and crew before they head off for their competition and to get a glimpse of some of Panerai's beautiful, sporty timepieces on display.

Again this year for the fourth consecutive year, Panerai will sponsor days of respite on the sea linked to each community where they host a regatta, in conjunction with the non-profit Sailing Heals which Panerai North America launched as an independent organization in 2011. The company, along with volunteer Host Captains, will once again host patient and caregiver sails and seaside luncheons by partnering with the host city's local medical centers and clinics. Sailing Heals' mission is to provide unique sailing and boating experiences to individuals, families, caregivers and staff who may be experiencing a health setback or loss where all can benefit from a congenial, relaxing day on the water.

OFFICINE PANERAI

Founded in Florence in 1860 as a workshop, shop and school of watch-making, for many decades Officine Panerai supplied the Italian Navy in general, and its specialist diving corps in particular, with precision instruments. The designs developed by Panerai in that time, including the Luminor and Radiomir, were covered by the Military Secrets Act for many years and were launched on the international market only after the brand was acquired by the Richemont Group in 1997. Today Officine Panerai develops and crafts its movements and watches at its Neuchâtel manufacture. The latter are a seamless melding of Italian design flair and history with Swiss horological expertise. Panerai watches are sold across the world through an exclusive network of distributors and Panerai boutiques.
