Blending classic horology with modern design and complex materials, Linde Werdelin is proud to unveil the Oktopus Moon Gold 3DTP Carbon, launching Tuesday 12th January 2016, in a limited and numbered series of only 59 pieces worldwide.
The Oktopus Moon Gold 3DTP Carbon takes the classic gold watch, a staple of watchmaking, and views it through the prism of Linde Werdelin’s design language. The resulting timepiece unmistakably shares the Linde Werdelin DNA of forward-thinking, innovative design, but equally belongs to the realm of sophisticated timepieces. The Oktopus Moon Gold 3DTP Carbon is a dress watch as much as it is a sports watch.
Black and gold are contrasted throughout the design: from the in-house moonphase complication at the centre of the timepiece, to the photorealistic, luminescent moons sitting on a golden disc, and outwards to the 3DTP bezel and 18 karat rose gold outer case.
Delving into the inspirations behind the timepiece, Morten Linde, creative mind at Linde Werdelin, explains, “I wanted to create a multi-functional timepiece that would be at home anywhere. It should be sophisticated yet understated, but also suitable as a sports and dive watch. A blend of gold and carbon proved to be the ideal combination.”
3DTP is a marvel of engineering. Differing from traditional carbon fibre composites or forged carbon, 3DTP involves a technique of layering thin sheets of carbon that took many years to master, and a further two years to perfect for the iconic, sharply angular case of the Oktopus.
For the first time in its history, Linde Werdelin has employed a carbon bezel. 3DTP was chosen because aesthetically the layered carbon and surface treatments give the illusion of depth as the bezel catches light and reflects it back to its wearer, while still being a hard and scratch-resistant material suited to the bezel. The pairing with 18 karat rose gold gives a contrast between sporty and sophisticated, while still being a functional combination for diving thanks to the anti-corrosive properties of both carbon and gold.
Linde Werdelin’s in-house moonphase complication sits at the heart of the Oktopus Moon Gold 3DTP Carbon, a statement of Linde Werdelin’s adventurous spirit, and directly applicable to diving. The moonphase complication serves real purpose, an easy way for the wearer to track the full moon and plan the best time for night dives.
The Oktopus Moon Gold 3DTP will be released on Tuesday 12th January 2016, in a limited and numbered series of 59 pieces, priced at CHF 35,000. For more information, please visit Linde Werdelin’s website: LindeWerdelin.com

About Linde Werdelin
Linde Werdelin creates the ultimate sports timepieces and high performance digital instruments for skiing and diving, to amplify the sporting experience whether high in the mountains or deep in the sea.
Modern by design, intelligent by materials and complex by construction; these are the fundamental ingredients that define a Linde Werdelin timepiece. Defying convention and breaking the boundaries of what is possible, Linde Werdelin commands a distinctive, respected point of view in the art of Swiss watchmaking.
Linde Werdelin timepieces are individually crafted in Switzerland in partnership with the finest, independent artisans and watchmakers. Produced with the utmost care and attention to detail, the entire collection is offered in limited and numbered series of 59, 75, 88, 99, or no more than 100 pieces for each design.
Roles of Morten Linde & Jorn Werdelin
Linde Werdelin is entirely owned and managed by its two co-founders, Morten Linde and Jorn Werdelin. While their titles are loosely defined as “creative mind” (Linde) and “strategic visionary” (Werdelin), their day-to-day roles are much more intertwined. Morten Linde is not just a designer, he’s a creator: he envisions the concepts for Linde Werdelin timepieces, first creating the designs for these and then advancing them through the production phase, working with the Swiss artisans and craftsmen to resolve problems that arise and advance the boundaries of possibility. He ensures the concept becomes the reality he envisioned. Meanwhile, Jorn Werdelin oversees the growth and future of the company, expanding Linde Werdelin’s distribution and retailer presence, and leads the Sales and Communications teams.
Moonphase Complication
The moonphase complication on the Oktopus Moon series has been iterated upon since its introduction with the 2013 Oktopus Moon Black (47 pieces) and Oktopus Moon Gold (12 pieces). Created in-house, the first LW moonphase complication was the result of a collaboration with watchmaker Svend Andersen (a collaboration that, separately, spawned the SpidoLite series).
The moonphase complication features beautifully photorealistic illustrations of the different phases of the moon, which are separated by a circular perlage finish that represents the stars in the night sky. The Oktopus Moon Tattoo is the one exception to this, which instead tells the story of an anthropomorphic moon, following it from boyhood to old man until he’s eventually reborn with the new moon.
All Oktopus Moon series timepieces are limited to 59 pieces, representing two full lunar cycles (a reference to being the second series of Oktopus Moons) of approximately 29.5 days each.
Back Case and Octopus Engraving
On the Oktopus Moon Gold 3DTP, the back case is made from titanium. It features a large, sprawling engraving of an octopus, which has been laser-engraved at multiple levels. This creates a deeper and more detailed realisation of the octopus motif, whereas on earlier Oktopus Moons it was only capable of achieving a shallower engraving. In all instances, the engraving was hand-drawn by Morten Linde.
