Some good ones slip through

There are so many watch models around that some good ones slip through.
Then, Montblanc focused on assembling the best components into their watches.
Before they developed and acquired in-house expertise, the ETA movements were good reliable engines.
They already knew about luxury quality from their writing instruments and leather goods, so cases and dials could be mastered.
In the early years, they came up against plain prejudice. I've heard a collector of many high-end watches say: "I love the quality and horological expertise of this Montblanc Villeret watch but I would never buy one because of the brand name."
That is not a indictment; he/she was perfectly entitled to make that decision as it was his/her money. It was honest that he/she could admit to the real reason.
Through PuristSPro and other fine media channels, that view is less common, these days.

An older Montblanc model but one very underrated watch in my modest opinion. The dial is superb and the finishing is really very good. The Caliber is an ETA model but Montblanc cases and dials are flawless. I can't understand why this watch never made it ...

I’m a big GO admirer. I have several pieces that rotate so it’s hard to get another brand in, but I visited a Montblanc boutique and was very tempted. Steve

I agree with everything you wrote and I'm happy the unfair view against Montblanc is less common. After all, just because they are excellent in crafting writing instruments and leather goods, this shouldn't be detrimental to people's perception of their t...
