As I'm starting to learn more about watches, I'm curious what it means to have a Montblanc in-house movement. How do the in-house movements differ from the other "generic" ones? Also, by looking at the movement caliber #, how does one tell if it's in house or not? Thanks!!

Thanks for this layman explanation, exactly what I needed!! Does Montblanc have a website that further explains movements in more detail? It'd be great if you can give more guidance on how to find out more about the caliber numbers.

What I found even more useful is their iPad app though. Detailed explanation with pics and videos of each timepiece and their calibres. If you have an iPad search for the Montblanc Timepieces app Cheers Robin

The ipad app is very interesting and informative!!! All of us Montblanc fans should get it. I especially like the part where thet show the movement parts coming together in a split second. Very cool.
