Even more sorry that it is so common I had to come up with a term for it.

"I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart." My Montblanc experience has officially ended.

A final photo before leaving me forever. I will truly miss this watch. One of the best - and perhaps the most complete - timepiece I have ever owned. Disappointingly, the brand really let me down. Life is far too short to engage with those you don't care ...

Sad to read, but I fully understand you Michael!

And its better to move on than hold on to something you lost confidence in. Hope your next will be a better experience! Best Blomman

Thank you, Blomman. Your support, and the others here, it goes along way.

"So much more than just a watch"... yes, we love this saying. But sometimes... it is just a watch. I prefer my friendships

Wow

.. would you please enlighten us what went wrong? What was your disappointment

You can search, there are posts about it.

 By: MichaelC : October 24th, 2017-15:20
In short, a horrible service experience, start to finish, to repair my watch, which had stopped working.

Fredo! Damn him!

 By: TheMadDruid : October 24th, 2017-09:59
No question you're doing the right thing. You would never again enjoy that watch. I wish the new owner the best.

I did. I still do. But I needed to move on.

Sorry to leave the special group of PuristS owners :-(

Yes, I will get on the next one! Still so happy w/ my P15.

 By: MichaelC : October 25th, 2017-18:33
The 1858 was interesting as we sort of grew quickly w/ our group.

Are they not owned by Richemont?

 By: MichaelC : October 27th, 2017-06:28
I'm happy to roll with you when it comes to watches my Friend. Nobody knows the brand better. They seem to make a high quality product. As I have stated through the entire experience, I truly take no exception to the watch having a failure. This can happe...

100% agree

 By: manilx : October 24th, 2017-10:09
Same bad experience with this brand! Took them to court. In the end the issue was 3 missing screws from initial assembly and not the opening authorized by me by a 3rd part. They are a disgraceful watch company.

From my experience Richemont service is a disgrace

 By: manilx : October 24th, 2017-23:49
All of it! Otable exception being Lange but they have the biggest autonomy in the group. IWC send various watches for service and problem fixing and got them back the same or worse Panerai sent in watches for reflate and came back worse the last with 2 cm...

A friend had a watch ruined by IWC. I have been tempted by that brand, but cannot make the plunge.

 By: MichaelC : October 25th, 2017-18:32
Richemont brands won't get my business thanks to Montblanc.

Lousy ending....

 By: InHavenPro : October 24th, 2017-10:14
but the right way to go about it. Better luck going forward! Cheers, Filip

Thanks, Filip. [nt]

I hope the powers at MB and/or Richemont have seen your story and will make improvements

 By: Joepny : October 24th, 2017-10:41
Good luck with what you decide to do in the future. All the best.

I totally understand.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : October 24th, 2017-10:56
It really is a great watch, but your experience with it is a sign.

The watch itself, working correctly, phenomenal.

 By: MichaelC : October 24th, 2017-15:35
The brand... not so stellar.

Thanks, Alkiro. I have moved on from a good handful of others over many years...

 By: MichaelC : October 24th, 2017-15:39
But never for a reason like this. Usually to buy something different or more appealing. This is the first time I sold one I genuinely wanted to keep.

I sincerely hope it will be the only one

 By: Alkiro1 : October 25th, 2017-14:05
Best wishes Alkiro

Me too. [nt]

Your experience was truly unfortunate...

 By: KMII : October 24th, 2017-13:06
And I hope changes have been implemented as a result. I am also keeping my fingers crossed that the new owner will find a more lasting joy with it - it is a great watch after all! Also looking forward to finding out where your horological journey takes yo...

The new owner is a great guy, I pray his luck with it will be superb.

 By: MichaelC : October 24th, 2017-15:44
Maybe he will post it sometime here...

may be it was not meant to be....

 By: christianch : October 24th, 2017-13:32
I too had some bad experiences (even with Patek) but would I get rid of the watch ? No! I did wait too much to get one and I still like it. No watch company is perfect so perhaps the love for the watch was too clouded..but glad you have the desired outcom...

We all have different thresholds. Mine was crossed. I had no choice.

 By: MichaelC : October 24th, 2017-15:46
Principles can be a bitch, but I never abandon them. For me, there was no choice to keep it.

Michael do understand on a certain level

On my point of view service and after sales from benelux has always been perfect! Very fast replies, never had a problem with a MB timepiece and maintenance of Minerva pieces quiet fast (minus 4months). However all the ME of the 1858 really killed it, and...

Read my post about Chopard service on that forum. I am a very reasonable person.

 By: MichaelC : October 24th, 2017-15:53
In that case, they took 3 months to do a movement service and then returned my watch with a scratched crystal. I did not rant or rave or cry on the forum. I politely contacted them, agreed to a solution, and praised their professionalism. Montblanc had ev...

Sorry to see this

 By: mj23 : October 24th, 2017-15:11
But happy to see it goes to a new home.

Wonderful watch, sad to see this ending

 By: patrickmaniac : October 24th, 2017-15:49
Cheers PAt

Some day, I'll start a search for a new manual winding chronograph.

 By: MichaelC : October 24th, 2017-16:25
But in steel, in a perfectly sized for my wrist case, dateless, monopusher... not sure there are many good options to choose from.

Longines? [nt]

Sad story

 By: Gelato Monster : October 24th, 2017-19:39
It is a beautiful watch but some value should never be crossed. Wish you greater experience with many more gorgeous watch from another brand/model. thank you for sharing your story. I am rethinking about 1858.

I was pleased to pay the purchase price. I thought it was very fair, to be honest.

 By: MichaelC : October 24th, 2017-20:23
I did not worry about resale, because I never expected to be made angry enough by the brand to not care. But it is OK. I am peaceful now about the situation Thanks for the warm wishes. I will forge ahead with Audemars Piguet, Ulysse Nardin, etc. And when ...

Highly recommend the Independents Route...

Even more sorry that it is so common I had to come up with a term for it.

I know that feeling Michael...

 By: andrewluff : October 25th, 2017-12:46
best to let it go than keep a watch with a bad feeling and bad memory. I had a piece a few years back and after a big disagreement with the watchmaker, it was never the same wearing it, however it was a great piece. Now it sits on someone else's wrist who...

Closure is one of the best feelings in the world!

Been following your struggle with MB. I’d say congrats 😁 Best. Echi

totally feel you bro

 By: beerstyle : October 26th, 2017-17:34
as I have been in the same shoes with a Lange 1 purchase about 2 years back. Poor service and broken promises made me peeved with the watch in general, even when I got it back after 5 months (the second hand did not reset to zero, this is the new movement...

I have always wanted an AL&S. But they have their own service in the US I think?

 By: MichaelC : October 27th, 2017-06:23
I know I have read very positive reports about the service in NY for that brand.

Always had the best experience with ALS NYC

 By: TheWindingStem : October 27th, 2017-10:39
Every issue was addressed promptly and professionally.
