Jaeger-LeCoultre

Sound off on the Master Antoine LeCoultre Eight Day LE...

Normally my taste tends to run a bit more towards flash and panache rather than to something classic and elegant. A perfect example is my preference for the Journe Octa Lune vs. the Lange Moonphase (which I find stunning but a bit too austere). For Lange fans, please note that I am a devoted and long-time Langeaholic. Although Langes still adorn my wrist, I have recently shifted my collection to where the more classical pieces are vintage. The "new" stuff has to distinguish itself with some kind of creative flair.

As my collector friends surely know, at some point this will change. In what direction? We all use the same crystal ball.

When I saw the new Master Antoine LeCoultre Platinum Eight Day up close and personal my "new" rules went out the window. It's classic. Undersated. Elegant (dare I say "Langeish?"). And extraordinarily executed. It's bold size is almost a contradiction to it's subtle and refined complications. It could easily be a Patek. But I'm particularily delighted it's a Jaeger. Because they deserve a benchmark timekeeper that becomes as timeless as the Reverso. Advancing the art. Not just moving it around.

For me, no watch is truly perfect. If there was, we would only need one. And what fun THAT would be. Finding trivial treasures is what makes collecting a true joy.

To me the Master Antoine deserves the highest praises and justifies the acclaim it has received. It's a masterful combination of classical design and innovation.

Just my humble...and curious about your thoughts.

thanks for reading,
