The Master Grand Tourbillon Continents

Last year at the SIHH, I fell under the charm of a very special series of watches, The Enamel watches, The " Venus " or the White Email Grand Feu MMRs, The Reverso Pavonia Piéce Unique, and the Master Grand Tourbillon  Continents.

Here, the link of the post I made at this moment:

I kept these marvels in my mind, hoping to be able to cross their way one very close day, and since a few days, it is now done.

While I only saw one  Master Grand Tourbillon Continents in Geneva, here, at the JLC Paris Boutique, I had the pleasure to admire the whole set!

Which is fascinating with these enamelled watches is that they are at the boarder between Horology and Art, or, to say it better, they are both Art and Horology.

Indeed, the Master Grand Tourbillon, as shown below, is not only a piece of Horology, with its Caliber 978 displaying a Tourbillon and with its jumping second hand, it is also a piece of Art.

With the enamelled version, the Artistic part of this watch is just ...Sublimated, to reach again another higher level.

An enamel dial is the result of a complicated  and delicate processus, a kind of Alchimy, blending Heating, Sculpture and Painting.

On the " Continents ", the dial, in gold, is first engraved  in a way which is characterisitic to JLC, a soleillé ( sunburst ) guillochage.

The Guilloché dial is then a background when are  installed the different layers of cloisonné enamel.

The outcome is just below these few lines, incredibly warm, contrasted, and deep.

And these small waves coming from the depth of the gold dial are giving a stronger impact.

And if you get rid of these Lessons of Geography, the Tourbillon is here to offer you a nice escape!

Of course these " Continents " share the same case, case back, and movement:

Let's now see these 3 different faces:

1/  " Asia and Australia " :

2/ " The Americas " :

3/ " Europe, Africa and Middle East " :

Which one do you prefer?

I must admit a certain weakness for the " Americas ", due to the fact that it is impressive to see the tourbillon emerging from the Sea, and not " cutting " some lands as on the 2 others.

To be complete, the Master Grand tourbillon  Continents is also available in Pink Gold, Yellow Gold or Platinum, and limited in each metal to 20 pieces.

An impressive  piece of Horology and Poetry...

Best to All,

Nicolas
