Speake-Marin: A Work In Progress

Hi,

I recently spent sometime with Peter in his workshop in Rolle, Switzerland (very nice) and saw a few new pieces he was working on.

There are two new wristwatches in the works, but only one that we will discuss now.

One-Minute Tourbillon with Minute Repetition

This is a work in progress. Meaning the movement has NOT BEEN finished or cleaned. The movement is based on a Christophe Claret (maker of fine complicated movements) caliber. Peter has made entirely new bridges out of German Silver and has made the tourbillon carriage in the style of his pocket watch. Although the movement is of a high grade it still requires numerous hours of hand finishing and adjusting to reach the high standard Peter sets for his work.

The movement is 28mm in diameter and 8mm thick. The case will be 37mm and in the same style as the Piccadilly Automatic. "The dial [will be] simply a chapter ring for the hours and a small off set ring for the seconds at 9.00. The repeater will be seen through the center. The rings will be a mixture of hand engraved, and diamond markers for the hours and sapphires for the seconds. The case will most likely be in rose gold."

Peter will be sharing more photos of this watch as he progresses and, I'm sure, he will appreciate comments on this project.

Cheers,

Curtis
