Dufour Duality....Journe Resonance....Double Tourbillon?? (theory comparison??)

Hello everyone,

I was speaking with a good watch collecting friend last night and he asked me an interesting question. how does the theory of "Resonance" and the actual Journe Resonance movement compare to that of the Dufour Duality?

I thought that the Duality is just a watch conceived with two balance wheels will help to compensate for effects of gravity upon the balance, thus, in theory will improve accuracy. (Maybe I am wrong here...????)

The Resonance phenomonon in theory...is this how the two balance wheels are placed close enough togehter that they begin to "control" each other, that the rate is regulated by the force of one balance on the other. If one balance wheel is faster or slower, the other helps it to get back into "resonance". (Again, not the best scientific explination but is my general idea correct???)

How would the Resonance and Duality compare? Do they compare at all in terms of theory on how the dual balance wheels will effect a watches rate/accuracy??

Now this brings me to my next question...with the new craze of Double Tourbillons from Mr. Haldimann, Grubel & Forsey, Dubuis and others...Are these watches designed to achieve with a tourbillon what Journe and Dufour did with a regular balance wheel and escapement? In theory, if one believes that a Tourbillon will keep better accuracy, then are the principles behind these rotating, multi-axis, duoble tourbillons to achieve improved accuracy? Thus the same as Journe and Dufour's ideas?

Thanks for reading. I thought this the most appropriate forum to achieve the most "technical" answer....if you think I should post this somewhere else, please let me know. Thanks for reading and any assistance .

Kind regards,

asg
