As I understand it, Magic Gold is an amalgam of boron carbide and real gold fused together under heat and pressure

They put the powder in a press and shape it, then bake it, then immerse it in molten gold.
Imagine taking a very porous piece of lava rock, or ocean coral, and pouring gold over it.
When it hardens you have 75% solid gold with some boron carbide (hard!) structure imbedded inside.
It's very very clever way to get harder gold.
