Hello Purists,
During Baselworld 2011, I passed at the DeWitt booth in order to see their novelties.
This year, DeWitt’s themes were the New-Yorker atmosphere and lifestyle, referring to the new ASW tourbillon and Alice in Wonderland, referring to their new ladies timepiece, the Golden Afternoon.
So let’s start with the new DeWitt feminine watch, The Golden Afternoon.

As said before, the golden afternoon watch finds it’s inspiration from «Alice in Wonderland». The watch has been named «Golden Afternoon», because the first sentence of Alice In Wonderland is «During this Golden Afternoon» .
The watch has a 39mm case, a MOP dial, and is partly stone set with diamonds. A totally Diamond set version of the watch will be also available soon. Notice also that the hands are in the shape of angel wings, giving an extra touch of poetry to the watch. You can also see that some kind of restyled columns surround the Golden afternoon’s case, reminding the columns of DeWitt’s emblematic watch, the Academia.
Now let’s have a look to two complicated watches.
First, The Twenty-Eight 8 Tourbillon ASW.
The caliber of the watch was already presented last year at the Basel fair. It’s a Tourbillon, Seconde Morte and power reserve watch, which the caliber has the particularity to be equipped with a peripheral rotor. It also has the particularity that the seconde morte is directly connected to the tourbillon cage. The ASW(automatic sequential winding) mechanism is a DeWitt patent and the caliber is manufactured by DeWitt. Here’s a picture of the caliber.
The watch is available in two different versions, in a rose gold case as presented above, in a PVD Titanium case or in a tantalum/titanium case. The diameter of the case is 46mm, though it’s really comfortable to wear even for a small wrist like mine. The dial is inspired of the «art déco» style and of the New-Yorker skyscrapers.
Secondly, the Twenty-Eight 8 tourbillon
In itself, the Twenty-Eight Eight tourbillon was presented at Baselworld 2010. It was the first DeWitt watch with a caliber manufactured by DeWitt, the DW8028. For BaselWorld 2011, DeWitt dresses the Twenty-Eight 8 tourbillon with a blue dial, that is, like for the ASW tourbillon, inspired of the New-Yorker skyscrapers and the «Art Déco» architecture. The watch is available in a rose gold case and soon in white gold, with a 43mm diameter. The watch will be soon available with more dial variations, like for instance a white dial, with the same architecture than this one. There will also be a white variation of the guilloché. This is my favorite DeWitt 2011 novelty.
For information, here’s a picture I took last year of the 2010 version of the Twenty-Eight 8 tourbillon.
Now a simple watch from the Twenty-Eight 8 collection, the Twenty-Eight 8 automatic.

Like the Twenty-Eight 8 tourbillon, this watch was for the first time presented at BaselWorld 2010. DeWitt’s 2011 novelty for this watch, is this chocolate guilloché dial, as well as blue, taupe and white dial that will be available soon. It houses an ETA 2892 caliber in a 43 mm case.
Here is the academia chronostream, a more classical and «art déco» version of the blackstream chronograph. Like all the watches of the academia collection, the case has a diameter of 43 mm. This watches comes out in two different versions: In a rose gold and tantalum case with a grey dial, or in a rose gold case with a white dial. The Chronostream houses an ETA 7753 movement.
DeWitt’s last novelty is a «automobile» version of the Academia QP sport. Unfortunately, I don’t have any wrist shots or photos in the watch in real.
I hope you enjoyed this little report.
Kind Regards,
