What are the most important complications in a watch?

 By: kevincosta85 : March 15th, 2011-17:35
The most important complications in a watch are the following. Day, date and a Power Reserve. Most and I would say 95% of Us who who Chronographs, Quartz or Automatic rarely get used. Minute Repeaters are costly, I have a Citizen Eco-Drive I rarely use be...

To me

Date, doesnt have to be a complicated date just a plain and simple one Chrono is nice to have I consider perpetual calendars, minute repeaters, and tourbillons as the complications that could be considered as the super cars of the watch world. Theyre nice...

Definitely date.

That would be the single most used complication (if you call it one) I use.. almost on a daily basis. The other complications to me are all not necessary, but some are there for fun or to give the watch a more sophisticated look.

Ok my 2 cents

First off I'll totally contradict myself and say I love tourbillons although technically its not really a complication but alternative form of escapement, and I hate dates that create a cut out in the dial. I just love watching a tourbillon for hours on e...

Time and date, and it has to be legible. A rotating bezel to time my lunch breaks.A nice sweeping second hand is a nice to have as well. I'm the kinda guy who forgets what date it is and have to check the date on-the-go frequently. Some people say that po...

Definition issue?

 By: anaesdoc : March 16th, 2011-01:24
Hi Nicolas, I would agree with you, that the most important feature of any watch is the display of time. But we commonly consent on this definition of a complication: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "In horology (study of clocks), complication refer...

Totally agree. That is why ...

I made a 2d answer... On another side, you may have an issue with this definition. How or where would you rank a Tourbillon? Sophistication or Complication? But you're fundamentally right: A complication is something which adds to Time. This is an " a min...

Good question, Nicolas ...

 By: anaesdoc : March 16th, 2011-15:08
What is a tourbillon to be classified as? I would consent your definition as a "sophistication" (very sophisticated indeed). I does not add other functions to the watch, but it sophisticates the accuracy of the movement. Thus sophistication can be much mo...

On what criteria can you say that the Day, Date and power reserve are the most important

 By: amanico : March 16th, 2011-00:34
Complications? When you mention the power reserve, we have to make some differences between manual and automatic movements, and between long and short powqer reserve. Indeed, a short power reserve watch may not need a power reserve indicator... As you kno...

Importance by beauty or utility?

 By: MMK : March 16th, 2011-05:26
As using mechanical watches is not a logical decision, i would like to divide the question into two parameters which are most important to me. Beauty causes desire which in turn reduces rationality. I have watches that are beautiful (for my personal taste...

Date for me...

beyond it, I'd say Alarm and Chrono - both are interactive and can be triggered on-demand. Best, Goh

Wha do you mean by important ? The most useful ?

 By: foversta : March 19th, 2011-03:14
Itf you define the important complications as the most useful... I would say that the date is the most important. If you define them as the most prestigious, the most complicated, I would say: The Grande Sonnerie. Fr.Xavier

So it's date. But I desire more then date...thus it's gotta be the perpetual calendar. And for me, the most unimportant complication, also mean the most useless complication is the tourbillion. But it is also my favorite complication. Thus I collect QPs a...
