interesting point
For many consumers Swiss made is very important. Having had my fair share of Swiss watches of questionable quality it is not a designation that holds much weight for me personally and the leaps in quality displayed by many of the HK micro brands and Seagull of mainland China show what can be done at reasonable cost.
An ETA vs a Miyota or Seagull / Orient etc will add a couple of hundred dollars to the cost but not the many thousands. When many Swiss brands use dials and cases produced in the far east too perhaps it is only the assembly and movement that is required to proclaim Swiss made.
The finishing on the cases and dials of the SevenFriday really is outstanding and only the movements let them down despite them being perfectly functional. If the ZZ could be sold at a price point of $US 2000 I'm certain it could be viable. Once we start going into high end pricing with unremarkable movements I think the impulse buy appeal fades rapidly.
I really love the design of the ZZ watches and would love to have one so I will certainly keep an eye on the brand and I wish them well.
