Citizen have had the Cosmosign and Moonsign series of watches since the mid 1980s. The Campanola Cosmosign and Astrodea may share the same engine but they are different watches and the Astrodea doesn't undermine the Campanola in any way. Every detail of the Campy is on a (an astral?) plane above that of the Astrodea. I live in Japan, I have seen both of them and I chose to get the Campanola because to my watch enthusiast's eye it offered more for my yen. Side by side the Campy is worth every penny. Saying that the engine is in a "whole line of cheap watches" isn't exactly accurate, there are three Astrodea watches, two Cosmosign (one is a southern hemisphere special) and one moonphase. All of the Astrodeas are around the $350mark and while that may be inexpensive compared with some watches it's on the expensive side when taking the world of watches in its entirety.
The Astrodea watches are wonderful in their own way - astronomical complications at a reasonable price are few and far between. They are marketed for astronomy enthusiasts, don't begrudge them their astronomical complications - telescopes are expensive and there isn't much left for watches afterwards
Don't let the Astrodeas diminish your enjoyment of your Campanola, wear it, look to the sky and smile, they are rare watches even in Tokyo.
