It's believed he got it in 1969, possibly from his mother visiting from Hong Kong. He wore it until the day he died. He gifted his UG Polerouter to a friend at the same time in 1969, possibly because he was a one watch guy and the Seiko had sentimental value.
I was actually looking through some old books and I found a photo on the jacket of a Robert Ludlum omnibus gifted to me by my wife. Ludlum is wearing an Aussie Pogue.
Interestingly, a friend of mine wears his 6309 gifted to him by his parents on his 18th birthday daily. He's 62 now.
