A watch is for daily use - Lets see your daily beater.

Sep 23, 2010,13:40 PM

There is a saying in the watch world - "what is your daily beater watch".
For some the idea of fixing a car, painting the house, using a chainsaw, swimming in the pool with their "expensive" watch is not something they will do gladly.
For these occasions the term "beater" comes in. Strap on a cheap watch and do your dirty work, and when done - put on your "expensive" watch once again.

For me that is not a option - I keep my watches on all the time - mainly because I see my watches as Tools (I only have tool watches) and the other reason is that I forget to remove my watch ;-).

So for me - I keep my watches on - vintage rolex, newer rolex and panerai.
And remember that the first scratch is the worst - Just enjoy your watch.

Some of my "daily beaters"

So let me see your daily beater watch ;-) /Jan J

Those are NOT beaters!

My last beater ended up trashed when it got hit by a rebounding bit of metal. The one before that is still working but acetone or something has clouded the plastic crystal and I can't be bothered polishing it out. Both were cheapo Swatch. I now have a wor...

That's my feeling

 By: mrsnak : September 24th, 2010-08:59
But I think it very much depends on the kind of physical activities you engage in, and whether or not you'd mind getting that watch seriously dinged or broken doing them.

Perhaps...

Admittedly, when the going gets truly rough, my DSSD or Ingenieur might get swapped out for my Kobold or one of my G-Shocks, but in terms of daily wear, the watches I listed are, in fact my go-to pieces. That said, I cut down a tree with my gas-powered ch...

My beater, and favorite weekend watch.

This Seiko 5 is a great weekend companion. It stands up to sweaty hikes with my dog, errand-running, washing the car -- whatever I can dish out! Also, I like the fact that when the date display changes over to Sunday it's shown in red (the other days are ...

That Seiko 5 is indeed a worry free beater. :)

 By: nickd : September 24th, 2010-10:26
I always have a problem with these "beater" threads. To me, a beater is something that can be ruined and put in the trash can with no tears shed. "Beater" is the opposite of "classy, stylish, expensive, collectable, desirable" etc. I look at these photos ...

Depends on how you spend your time...

 By: craniotes : September 24th, 2010-12:09
While clearly everyone's definition of "beater" isn't the same, perhaps more importantly in this instance is the fact many of us, myself included, rarely, if ever, find themselves in a situation where a watch -- be it a G-Shock or a GO -- would be in dang...
