Nothing new under the sun - night legible jumping hour Starwheel? Already offered by 17th century Roman clockmakers 🕰️
During a recent trip to Dubrovnik I had a chance to visit one of the city’s museums and was actually quite surprised by the horological gems contained (in clock, rather than watch form).
First and foremost a Roman Starwheel clock, with semi-transparent hour discs, allowing for the candle placed into the interior of the clock to illuminate it at night.
Need to research it more at some point but definitely nice seeing how much before any of the currently touted old Maisons such complications were already made by clockmakers I have never even heard of 👌🏻👍🏻🇮🇹

That’s why a lot of the more ‘adventurous’ independents seem to have had a stint of repairing and restoring old clocks, where many such gems lie 😉👍🏻

Necessity is definitely the mother of invention: the problem of knowing the time in the dark wasn’t solved only by means of sound (chiming watches) but also by means of light (candle). You made my day! Absolutely wonderful! Would love to see it in action ...

indeed the origin of the wandering hours complication was in 1655 by request from Pope Alexander VII, who had insomnia made worse by the ticking of his clock so the very first one was for night use too! Best Andreas
