Horological Meandering

Another horological question

As I look at my wife's datejust which I believe is a 28mm watch, it makes me wonder about movement sizes.
First I am truly impressed in seeing such a small watch run and be robust. But it leads me to another question.
Is there an optimal size of movement(up or down) where the technical aspects become relatively rate limiting.
Sure I get the large case is not entirely synonymous with caliber size but small case is. What is the optimal size for accuracy and technical construction
Thanks
