One more proof for the saying "You live and learn" ...

Hi Anders,
Thanks for your interesting post about the inscription "Glashütte Original" on vintage GUB watches!
Because that was news to us (our first impression was something like "dumb dial fake") , we tried to get a confirmation by an "official person".
Martina called Reinhard Reichel, director of the German Watch Museum Glashütte, who is a proven expert in the history of Glashütte watchmaking.
He confirmed exactly what you have heard by Jean Neef. The "Glashütte Original" watches were exported to the - so called  at that time - "capitalist foreign countries". Most of them went to the Western part of Germany.  The watches that were made for the home market of the German Democratic Republic did not wear the inscription "Original".
Mr. Reichel told us that there is at least one item exposed at the German Watch Museum.
Best regards,
Gerd & Martina

Hello again, Dr. Noo Well, they tasted just fine. I bought them in 1978 when I served as a UN soldier in Cyprus. It is stored in 21 years, so it was probably on the barrel of that year I was born, which is 57th The watch was made shortly after the beginni...

It's not often I have it on me, 1-2 times a month. The glass has small scratches but I will grind it. I wear usually Longines Master Collection. I would like to have a modern GO, but my wallet is too thin. Regards Anders

i know very little about the history of Glashutte other than WE bombed the factories in 1944 and then the Russians helped the East Germans form GUB. i've seen a lot of GUB watches from the 60's, but i've never seen one with Glashutte Original on the dial ...

Thanks for asking Graham!
