From what i can see, the GP "Deep Diver" appeared around 1965.
The first models had one crown, a remarkable big case (about 40mm) and different movements, including chronometer rated fast beat ones.
Later introduced the two-crown model came out, apparently to be a contestant to IWC?s reference 812 Aquatimer (which had a revolving inner bezel and two crowns as well).
A vintage catalogue mentions these as reference 7006 / model M3246BR18: "Men?s specialty watch, DEEP DIVER gyromatic, factory-tested to underwater pressure of 650 feet as long as case, crystal, crown are intact. Revolving bezel shows elapsed time. Stainless steel"
This later catalogue (1969) presents both version of GP?s deep diver:

The "1-crown" model ref. 8953 is the ladies? model, the men?s watch does look similar (just bigger).
While i would not say these are impossible to find, the Deep Diver of all versions do surface way less than other GP watches. I don?t know the production totals, but would be very surprised if they did many (several thoursands) of these.
While i don?t regard these to be the pinnacle of GP?s craftmanship and watchmaking art, i would be glad to own such a watch. It?s a very classic sports watch and likewise unusual.
The "value" or "price" is - of course - depending on the condition and the given model; but i would say a Deep Diver in fair to nice condition is worth what is stated elsewhere and it?s certainly a watch which is worth beeing overhauled/serviced/restored if necessary.
Beyond that, any number with a leading $ would require more information and some pictures.
