CONTEST TIME! Win a GP book!

Dear enthusiasts,

the christmas bells ring and towards the end of the year of 2005, we?re going to have something that didn?t happen on this GP Forum for quite some time:

CONTEST TIME

Thanks to the generosity of Girard-Perregaux (and "Agent X"), we?re happy to give away three copies of the book by Fran?ois Chaille about the brand:

"An excellent historical written by the historian Fran?ois Chaille account of a leading Swiss watch brand spanning more than two centuries of phenomenal technological change."

This contest will end on Sunday, December 18, 2005, 00.00 La Chaux-De-Fonds time and with one submission per participant, winning one of these books is a little bit of a challenge (and fun, i hope).
In order to participate, you have to answer these questions:

  • Question 1
For the first challenge, we are looking for a man with a special meaning for the history of GIRARD-PERREGAUX.
Despite being orphaned at a very early age, he was a determined young man. He was apprenticed successively as a case-fitter, engine-turner, watchmaker and goldsmith, and at the same time completed his education. In 1791, at the age of 19, he put his name to his first watches. This date marks the birth of GIRARD-PERREGAUX.
And the man we?re looking for in question 1 is
    1. Jean-Fran?ois Bautte
    2. Constant Girard
    3. Gino Macaluso
    4. Otto Graef

  • Question 2
The famous Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges by GIRARD-PERREGAUX underwent significant development over time.
Using an ingenious patented system which positioned a micro-rotor below the barrel, GIRARD-PERREGAUX introduced an automatic version of its famous Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges in the year
    1. 1889
    2. 1989
    3. 1999
    4. 2004

  • Question 3
The automatic Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges makes use of a micro-rotor. This rotor is made of
    1. steel
    2. brass
    3. platinum
    4. gold

  • Question 4
The "Foudroyante" today is one of GP?s most interesting wrist watches.
The original piece was a pocket watch and it?s part of the collection of the GP Museum today. This pocket chronograph with split-seconds and jumping seconds is signed "Girard-Perregaux" and was made circa 1880.
Different from the wrist models today, the Foudroyante "lightning second" of the original pocket watch counted
    1. 1/4 seconds
    2. 1/10 seconds
    3. 1/8 seconds
    4. 1/2 seconds

  • Question 5
GIRARD-PERREGAUX's writing instruments are a new addition to the portfolio and come with gold or silver fittings on very special barrels, whose exclusive light-brown finish have an original texture, unique reflections and a warm feel. This material is
    1. celluloid
    2. platinum
    3. iridium
    4. kryptonite

  • Question 6
Since 1992 the "Richeville" line by GP offers a range of watches with an elegant and timeless case shape, which is commonly referred to as
    1. tonneau
    2. square
    3. carr?-cambr?
    4. tank

  • Question 7
The Sea Hawk "Pro" II reference 49940 is an unusual watch, not only in terms of the sheer dimensions. The outstanding depth rating of 3.000m/10.000ft is achieved by means of an extremely solid case crafted in Titanium, in order to withstand the extreme pressure. But it?s not only the case which is extra thick!
The sapphire crystal of the "Pro" measures a thickness of
    1. 2.15mm
    2. 3.55mm
    3. 4.40mm
    4. 4.85mm

  • Question 8
GIRARD-PERREGAUX?s association with BMW-Oracle Racing in the 32nd America?s Cup has been built on the solid
foundation of shared values: technological mastery and innovation, total commitment, and team spirit.
BMW-Oracle Racing is an international team and sailing under the colours of the
    1. Soci?t? Nautique de Gen?ve - Switzerland
    2. Yacht Club Italiano - Italy
    3. Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia - Italy
    4. Golden Gate Yacht Club - USA

  • Question 9
Visiting Girard-Perregaux also allows for some interesting insights in industrial architecture.
GIRARD-PERREGAUX's headquarters at Number 1 Place Girardet house the Brand?s management, many of its departments, and the GIRARD-PERREGAUX Haute Horlogerie unit. It is here that, after months of work, the hands of the master watchmakers give life to the Manufacture?s superb timepieces, among them the famous Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges.
This building, often called "The Blue" in La Chaux-De-Fonds due to it?s colour, was built in
    1. 1896
    2. 1926
    3. 1946
    4. 1966

  • Question 10
An icon for GIRARD-Perregaux is the "Vintage45" line of watches, which feature an art deco-inspired and unique case shape.
These watches can be had with several complications, such as large date indications and chronographs, as well as High Complications such as the Perpetual Calendar, the Sonnerie and the Three Gold Bridges Tourbillon.
The "Vintage45" models are available in different case sizes and the height of the cases does vary; the highest model with the greatest thickness is
    1. reference 25840
    2. reference 25975
    3. reference 90270
    4. reference 90210
    5. reference 90285
    6. reference 99710
    7. reference 99890
    8. reference 99850
    9. reference 99870
    10. reference 99860

Now the list of questions might seem long, but then i?d say the prizes are worth it!
If there are less than three participants to answer ALL questions correctly or more than three, the winners will be randomly choosen.

A hint and some help:
I?d recommend to hop over to GP?s official website at www.girard-perregaux.com and have a close look at the various topics such as "MANUFACTURE", "COLLECTION" and "MUSEUM". It?s not unlikely you will find all answers there...

In order to participate, please note down your choices as follows
Q1 - number 1 (as an example, of course)
Q2 - number 2
Q3 - number 4
...
Q10 - number 5

and include your name, prename, complete mailing adress for shipment and a phone number (required for shipping).

Then email the solutions and data (please DO NOT POST them here on the forum) to me:

The winners will be notified on Monday, December 19!

Good luck to all and i?m MUCH looking forward to receive your votes and submissions!

Greetings from germany,

Peter
