As I typed the title above, I was reminded of PPlater's recent post in which he referred to my "sighing" about Volker and the VA. That's not sighing -- it's excited breathing at the prospect of (eventual) delivery of my watch!
I received an informative message this past week from Michael Vyskocil, Volker's brother who is now handling the business matters for Volker. The text (and copies of Michael's photos) follows:
"Finally I got some pictures of a final bridge. The last step of gold
plating is still missing, but you may take note of the engraving, which
is looking very good from my point of view. In addition to this the
surface made by a kind of sandblasting and the shining edges are as they
should look like. The spots on the parts can be ignored and will be
removed just before gold plating.
Volker is still planning to build 2 watches this year and even if
finalising the bridges again took longer than expected I'm still
confident that he will achieve that aim, maybe a little bit later, but
he will do it."

If all of the subsidiary parts are already made for the first run of watches (which I believe they may well be) and Volker is starting to do final finishing on at least some of the sets of plates, it may be pretty reasonable to expect a couple of watches to be completed prior to year end. That would be a wonderful accomplishment, and would bring good holiday cheer to those awaiting these watches. I'm not sure about the smoothness of the edge on the right-hand plate (see the spot just to the left of the central stud, Southwest of the engraving of "No."), but that may be an optical illusion.
I'm not No. 5, but I hope that whoever holds that number will be fortunate soon!
Best,
