Blancpain

Vintage Blancpain

I am considering purchasing an early Blancpain. Possibly from the early 1800's. The price is very reasonable and the watch is absolutely beautiful. It has a porcelain dial with roman numerals. The movement is key wound, key set and HEAVILY engraved.

Were Blancpains always considered 'high end' or did they only achieve such status after the re-birth? The name on the dial reads.' Blancpain a Geneve'. Were Blancpains ever copied like Breguets were? Should one be suspicious of it's authenticity? I guess the main question I'm asking is, would such a watch be considered a prize to own?

Any help would be MOST appreciated.
