Ulysse Nardin BLUE SEA Night in Toronto

Last week Swiss luxury watch brand Ulysse Nardin in association with a local Toronto-based jeweller, and featuring Canadian television celebrity Mr Frank D’Angelo combined to create an evening of great fun for watch collectors and boutique patrons at "Forget About It Supper Club". This event was billed as the Ulysse Nardin “Blue Sea” Night.  For many of the watch collectors in attendance, this was our first-glimpse of many of the brand's ultra-complicated timepieces, and as important, the official unveiling in Canada of the Ulysse Nardin Limited Edition Blue Sea timepiece, of which 999 numbered watches will exist worldwide.

The dinner was attended by 80 people. Besides the great food and wine featured at the restaurant, there was a charity auction held after the main course that benefited the Toronto General Hospital's Multi-Organ Transplant Program.

The Multi-Organ Transplant (MOT) Program at Toronto General Hospital is the first of its kind in Canada, and is the fourth largest of its program in North America. The dedicated doctors and nurses at the hospital facility completes over 400 solid organ transplants each year. From the press release "The MOT Program now performs more than half of all transplants in Ontario, about one quarter of all those in Canada, and follows almost 5,000 patients. It is internationally recognized for innovation and discovery, and many treatment advancements developed in the program have been adopted as standard practices worldwide"

With the efforts from the jewellers, Mr D'Angelo and Ulysses Nardin, the team worked with Kahuna Powersports and Kawasaki in presenting a limited Edition 001 Ulysses Nardin "Blue Sea" Jet Ski. This unique jet ski was auctioned off on behalf of the hospital. The one-of-a-kind jet ski was claimed by a winning bid of $18,000. In attendance was Dr. Mark Cattral and his colleagues from the hospital. They were obviously thrilled with this great gesture and excellent results at the auction close.

Below are a few photos of the people, the Ulysse Nardin products from this great evening.

The boutique with goodies courtesy of Ulysse Nardin prepared a special 'swag bag' for each attendee. The white boxes contains "Blue Sea" cupcakes for the guests to take home.

A good reason I get involved with set up of these GTGs besides the fantastic company are the wristwatches that are often brought in. There were a few of the display towers showing products from Ulysse Nardin. Many of these watches came with high complications not often seen in one assembly. The cotton gloves were brought out in anticipation of some very high end watches to be shown and for the most of the evening handled by collectors.

Yes the watches were taken out of the cases, plastics removed for closer views and personal inspection. For me the highlight of any GTG is the chance to try out these watches.

A closer look at the Blue Sea dial. The case size is 45.8mm and almost 15mm in height. The movement is an automatic (UN cal. 26) with roughly 42 hours of power reserve.

The dial has a black wave pattern. The dark blue hour markers and hands completes the blue theme. Retail on this watch will be $10,900 USD.

A toast to the organizers and to Ulysse Nardin. Job well done!

Yours truly hamming it up with the UN ambassadors. For what its worth I anticipate in advance and answer your (male) curiosities– from left to right the ambassadors are Nicci, Sheena, and Chantal.

Thank you for reading. In the weeks to come I hope to detail a few of these watches with more photos, reviews and some of my personal observations. Best wishes, Joel
