TAG Heuer 300 SLR Calibre 1887 Chronograph

The first SLR chronograph, was produced in 2004 to celebrate the partnership of  Mercedes-Benz with TAG Heuer since 1995 (and McLaren since 1985). For this year 150th anniversary, TAG Heuer created 300 SLR 1887 Chronograph paying  tribute to the heritage of both companies.

In 1955 Juan Manuel Fangio drove the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR  “Silver Arrow” in  the “Mille Miglia,” one of the most breathtaking motor race in the world, completing 1000 miles over three days and Fangio was wearing on his wrist that day, a TAG Heuer timepiece – called Heuer at the time.

The Caliber 1887, understood that three years ago, TAG Heuer bought the intellectual property rights of a robust Chronograph known as TC78 (in 1997/99)  which Seiko Instruments Inc (SII) designed and patented in 1997/99.

After that, TAG Heuer improved on some components, as mentioned, the the assortment bridge and the main plate, and adding major technical features such as an eccentric adjustment screw to the oscillating pinion (patented first by Edouard Heuer in 1887).

The intention I guess, besides to ensure the 're-developed' Cal 1887 to function reliably in the field, various components are re-designed for manufacturability and to suit the automated assembly process and machines which in long run, will increase the output capacity and achieving economic of scale for this chronograph caliber.
