Seiko

One more 60th anniversary piece - the SSA315K1

Seiko has launched a raft of watches for its 60 anniversary of the first automatic watch, including the two Presage chronos (that found a home with quite some Purists) - namely the SRQ019 and SRQ021 - and now some Seiko 5s as well.

Foremost amongst these is the SSA315K1, using the new 'helmet' case. The new case looks quite appealing on pictures but I am yet to see it live. Much larger than past regular 5s at 44mm, it also switched from the 7S26 movement to the 4R37. This movement change also means the weekday gets lost in exchange for a 24h counter.

It is anything but shy and retiring, with a titanium carbide coating making it black, gold detailing (crown, hands, hour markers), and a red 5 as the seconds counterweight. The 12 o'clock marker is a small shield with the number 60 embossed on it, which is a nice touch.

Not strictly my style but one can see that the 5 series is getting more attention and more limited editions these days.
