Independents

Number one!

OK, I admit it, I'm hooked...

After a year's consideration, I recently placed an order for one of Peter Speake-Marin's Shimodas in SS, with engraved RG-finished rear bridge. Then, of course, came the Watch History in the Making event, and a wonderful opportunity to get to know Peter much better, to meet and talk with Daniela, and to build an even deeper appreciation for them as people and as creators of art.

The result: I made the leap to becoming the proud owner of Shimoda RG #1!

The watch is not quite "complete" at this point, so Peter is taking it back to his workshop to engrave the rear bridge in the style of the Foundation watch, and then to do final regulation and touch-up before shipping back to the States. Pre-engraving view of the reverse is below:

I have to say that I couldn't be more pleased -- for once, not a second of the dreaded buyer's remorse. Of course, had funds allowed, I might have exited the weekend with one each of Vianney's Contemporaine, Marco's and Johannes' monopusher, and the McGonigles' tourbillon on order!

I'll post a shot of the finished watch when it "officially" arrives in the country. In the meantime, my only hope is that the folks at the Saturday and Sunday events (see post below) didn't "fondle" my new baby too much!

Apologies for the photo quality -- Steve G or Harry T I'm not!

Best,

Gary G
