Horological Meandering

Nomos addition

My small collection was really already complete, but purists know how this goes!  An online auction success last week brought me this polished steel Nomos Orion Rosé 35mm.  I have been fascinated for a while with this manufacturer but did not like the Bauhaus-style of alfa-numerical indices shown on the brand’s popular dials.  This watch is understated and presents as acceptably large on my slim wrist.  Dressy or casual, it does not attract unwanted attention.  Artistically, I think it is quite beautiful, hence the acquisition!

This one spoke to me as soon as I saw the lot – rose silvered (difficult to discern the pink in my photo) open dial with narrow bezel and domed crystal, gilt hands and bar indexes, guilloche sub-dial, slim case with exhibition back and fine tapered lugs.  I dislike straight lugs.  This model appears to be only now available new as a 38mm case - too big for me.

Condition is excellent and timekeeping currently appears to be +/- 1 second/day.  Included its box and other contents.

No chronometer but fine travois timing regulator and well finished Geneva-striped movement.  Manual winding, 43hrs PR, 3atms WR and stop-second setting.  No date!

Its accompanying signed cordovan black strap is a little tired so I am contemplating its replacement with a brown cordovan with red stitching, available on the Nomos website at a reasonable price and delivery.  In the meantime, and because I am fond of reptile straps, I have mounted this spare one for the moment as a test.  I think the mid-tan softens the look.  The smooth cordovan may look flat and rather “hard”.  I am open to comment.

Best
