I've seen the new version of the Dato in person, and it's a really nice watch. I like the less cluttered dial of the newer version much better, and to me that's the biggest plus (the longer PR is a plus too, of course). BUT plenty of others feel otherwise... 

I hope it's easy to find a NOS Datograph after I have seen the Dato Up/Down. There isn't any NOS ones where I live, so geography is an issue too. Thanks. iAn

Hi Ianny, In your replies, you often mention how difficult it might be to find a NOS Dato in the future (and even now). Bu why would you need an NOS Dato, especially if (as you indicated in a previous post) funds are limited? You may want to consider buyi... 

Even though many will say that it is perfectly OK to buy pre-own's, I am still not used to the idea yet. I expect my purchases to come in pristine conditions. Also, I would feel odd if the papers weren't in my name. And if funds weren't limited, I would j... 

... is that the papers will not be in your name even if you buy brand new. Lange's paperwork is in the name of the watch itself (serial number) and also has the name/stamp of the authorized dealer who sold that particular watch. The purchaser's name (i.e.... 

The new Dato has lots a big part of iuts charm and character, IMO. To hunt a NOS Dato is a joke... You can wait till May to see the new Dato in the lfesh, then decide. If you want to get a NOS Dato, you will be a ble to find one in less than one month Bes... 

I think the biggest aesthetic difference between the two is the roman numerals. The roman numerals really enhances the dial and is part of the Dato DNA. But each has its aesthetic plus point - Up/Down being less cluttered. The Datograph is completely out ... 

... if both, you should buy both But, when Dato U/D start shipping, compare it side by side. Worried that the original Dato will be gone? Then buy one pre-owned now if you can't find the NIB at AD, and compare when U/D becomes available. If U/D speaks to ...

is also a deciding factor. With small wrist, the Dato up and down is out of the question.

might be the cutoff for wrist circumference for a watch like this. My wrist is 6" (152) circumference, and the Dato Up/Down looked and fit fine when I tried it.

My wrist is small too, 170 mm or about 7". My AD suggested that I tried on the Datograph Perpetual for reference as it is also a 41mm watch. I think it looks OK on me. Thanks. iAn

You can buy a pre owned one and decide to switch when the new one is available. This is a comfortable situation (yet more expensive if you go for à Nos Dato). But if this is not the case, then I think you will make a mistake not to wait until you see the ... 

But I am just afraid that there will be no more NOS Datos on the market at a later point in time. As it is, the Datograph (NOS) can't be found in Singapore. Am I being paranoid? Regards, iAn

There is after all only one "original" Datograph. Both watches are superb but I would go to the new one only if the watch fits better on the wrist. Power reserve is not an issue as with 36 hours, you will have the pleasure to wind the watch every day. Pre...

Personally, I think you should stick with the original for a number of reasons that have already been stated in the responses above. But at the end of the day it really is up to you man. The most important thing is being able to try both side by side, wea... 

Well, apparently the NOS Dato has been sold. So I am now "stuck" with the Dato U/D now. Might as well.... According to the AD, it should be in Singapore around June. Thanks again. iAn
