My buddy inherited a Patek (ref. 2508) from his late grandfather. From the outside it appears to be in good condition. My watchmaker says it is running about 12-15 seconds fast per day, depending on the position tested, and that he could send it to the factory for service, but that it would not be inexpensive. The watch has no band. He has no attachment to the watch and knows that I enjoy collecting watches, so he offered it to me at an unspecified price. I could buy it and use it occasionally, although I do have a number of other beautiful watches which I already have in the rotation.
A couple of questions (I apologize if any are inappropriate for this forum). First, if I buy the watch, what would be the best way to obtain a close match on a strap (or maybe just the buckle)? Any thoughts on rough value? [I know this is being asked in a vacuum, but the question relates in part to whether this is a common, or not so common, watch.]
Thanks in advance for any comments.
