Have had my MM for almost three years now, and for all practical purposes have used it as my daily wearer, mainly because I don't want to part with it. Last week however I put it aside for 5 days because what I was doing was totally beneath its dignity. Returned home evening before last, ripped the quartz off my wrist, threw it in a drawer and got the MM out of its box. It had of course run down, so after sterilizing my hands I gleefully began the resetting ritual of date, day and moon phase; FYI this was at around 7:30pm, so no "forbidden" date or moon phase change times were violated. All went well, and after giving the crown 15 turns it started and all was well---for about 10 seconds. Gave the watch a ginger shake, and again about 10 seconds of running. Wound the crown another 15 turns, she started but stopped. Shake and run, shake and run until after 5 tries it stayed running, until this morning, 18 hours later when it stopped. Repeating the ritual four times finally got the watch going. The watch has never been this hard to start the few times it has wound down, and has never had this problem. It was purchased from an AD, new, with all warranties, so except for its prior shelf life there better not be a prior life I don't know about. Am a deskjockey and the watch has never even been dropped much less "sported" in, and I don't play golf or otherwise give it a spin.
My question to those of you much more familiar with the watch, or any mechanical watch for that matter, than I: does this sound like she's having a breakdown, or is it time for routine maintenance??
By the way, I've been dropping in here for about 7 months and appreciate being able to share the knowledge, history, and personal opinion found here. Thanks to all...
