Love for old Land Rovers? Then Manama has you covered πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ͺ

As alluded to in the Middle East Road Trip Post (here:  www.watchprosite.com  for the full experience) there was an element that I left separately. After leaving Khorfakkan we didn’t take the direct route back to Dubai but detoured via Manama in Ajman (another exclave but not sure you would use the term between Emirates). Just like most Latin American countries seem to have a Buenos Aires tucked away somewhere, so there seems to be more than one Manama - and this one is not the capital of Bahrain πŸ˜‰

You get the first harbinger of things to come right upon entering the town. With several vintage Land Rovers visible above the welcome sign to the town - more will be visible on the way out 😊

Google claimed that the Red Fort was the sight to see in the location so we have that a try. It took us a couple of attempts before we got the correct entrance. Seemingly not much of a tourist destination after all - but occasionally used by the Royal Family of Ajman.

The gate at the far end of the picture is the one to be used, should you wish to replicate the journey πŸ˜‰

And here’s the Red Fort, looming ahead. Apparently it has been reconstructed in 2019 or thereabouts and with that lost some of the original redness - used to be a royal fort constructed from 1910 onwards.

And something that wasn’t in any tourist guide was soon apparent - a liking of vintage off road machinery.

I must say my experience of the Middle East is patchy at best but those mounting points for spare Jerry cans in front of the front bumper were new to me.

The desert colored one ever had four 25 liter ones - wonder what the extra 100 kg or so out front does for the handling but I suppose that was not the prime concern πŸ˜ŠπŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

With the exception of the tires, which have seen better days, otherwise the Landies were relatively pristine.

And for the times when a Land Rover simply isn’t enough, there was the next step up parked just the other end of the gate πŸ¦ΎπŸ‘πŸ»

The fort isn’t large but it goes to show what changes have happened here over the past 5-6 decades πŸ‘πŸ»

You still get something of a view over the surrounding plains from the tower.

And some of the essential oryx were present, too 🐐

Some light dusting and one would be tempted to drive right off with one of the Landies πŸ‘πŸ»

As mentioned in the beginning, there was more to the Land Rovers above the town entry sign - but the full extent was only visible from the others side, when exiting. Some other brands were represented, too.

And to show that one is not brand specific, there were some other well preserved off roaders, too, like this Land Cruiser…

Or one of the old Daihatsu ones (from the days when these were more prevalent than the Kei cars of theirs)…

Hope you enjoyed this little detour and β€˜open air museum’ πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ»
