Let's see some older Offshores...
As we quickly approach the 20th Anniversary of the Royal Oak Offshore, let's remember some of the earlier models that have paved the way. While AP has created some fantastic new and cutting edge Offshore renditions in recent years, I still fancy many of the older models.
The 25721 started it all:
My wife could never wear the piece on the factory bracelet, but it turns out you can modernize this old nugget if inclined (and it looks quite good in the flesh):
And how about some blob markers in the notched 25770 case:
That case design was / is very unique. It turns out my favorite Offshores come in this "notched" case style. I can never say enough about the wonderful velcro kevlar strap, which is nothing short of perfect every time I wear a watch mounted on one.
Blue/Grey 25770 in stainless steel:
Now, my favorite single Offshore dial ever produced, and what I affectionately refer to as the "Silver Ghost":
For the record, that is one of the rarest production Offshores ever made (excluding some of the colored 25770s, green, orange, red, etc., which I am unsure of the production numbers). Fewer than 135 original pieces exist.
And of course, we cannot discuss the reference 25770 without what is widely regarded as the "Grail" Offshore, the End of Days. This is the ultimate LE in my opinion. Many might prefer some of the newer designs, but the End of Days is at the forefront of AP's innovation and daring.
I am fortunate to still own a few of those pieces. They are incredibly charming on the wrist, and the notched case models continue to have some very cool strap options that can make an Offshore more comfortable on a smaller wrist.
So, please share your older Offshores here. And, if you wish, dream of a new, 20th Anniversary piece... perhaps a notched black ceramic 44mm case, with a silver dial, 3126 movement, cermet bezel, and of course, a velcro kevlar strap... hmmm
