Girard Perregaux

Laureato musings...

I am pleased to see the posts and comments below on this watch. I own the watch pictured below and it is one of the first mechanical watches I bought when I became interested in this hobby. It is also the one I have owned the longest. Here is some background I hope you will find of interest.

I purchased this watch on the internet from a well known US authorized distributor in 2000. The watch was NOS and was offered at a great value in relation to the retail price. Shortly afterwards, I noticed it was running slowly and sent it to GP's US repair center in New Jersey for cleaning, regulation and to have a link added to the bracelet. All was covered under warranty.

I have thouroughly enjoyed owning this timepiece and consider it one of the favorites in my collection. The movement is the well know manufacture calibre 3100 and it is very finely finished as I had a chance to see the movement when I had a problem with the winding stem repaired. This leads me to another issue, that of reliability. I recently had the watch again repaired as it would not wind, either through the crown or via the rotor. I sent it to the repair facility, now located in Pennsylvania and in short time it was repaired and I am happy to say, the case was polished and the watch again runs well. When this watch was made, the 3100 movement was brand new and apparantly some minor bugs had not been worked out. Since then, the movement has been perfected and Girard Perregaux uses it in numerous watches and as the base for added complications. They also sell it to other watch companies as it is one of the top automatic movements on the market.

In conclusion, I am thrilled to have the watch back in my collection and on my wrist. Many times I have thought of selling it to finance other purchases but its value to me is very high and it looks like I will keep it for awhile. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Best, Mike.
