Girard Perregaux

Just ordered my dream watch

Having just returned to London after a visit to La-Chaux-de-Fonds and the GP factory, I just had to share my experience.

I have bought and sold many watches through out the years and my current collection include: 2 x Urban Jurgensen (ref 8 and ref 2), Franck Muller Long Island Perpetual Calendar, AP?s Royal Oak offshore, Lange 1 moonphase and a ref 5100 from Patek.

I have yet to own a tourbillion and yet to own a GP watch, so in talking to the watch dealer where I buy my watches, he arranged for a VIP visit to the GP facilities which is limited to around 80 a year.

I arrived the other day (Thursday Sep 18th) at 10am and had no real idea about what to expect. What can I say, it was simply mind blowing ? making a long story very short the visit was 7 hours long and included a full tour of the facilities where I was shown and explained all the different processes of watch making, I was giving a tour of the new museum and 1pm I had a 3 course lunch with wine, coffee and dessert together with a number of people from GP.

After lunch I was taking to the Holy Grail being the work area for complicated watches and was again explained in details how the complicated watch making differs from their more regular watches?.it was just an orgasmic experience.

Finally at 4pm I sat down and looked at their range of complicated watches and ended up ordering a Platinum tourbillion with 3 gold bridges and minute repeater, customized dial and special engravings making my watch the only one of its kind?..truly special.

The damage is a 2 ? 3 year waiting time and a dent in the bank account that equates to $300,000. I know it is completely insane and my wife is going to go mental when she finds out?..but what can I do, after the superior experience and the incredible hospitality and of course my compulsive need for adding a tourbillion to the collection, it was a no-brainer.
