Japanese Artist Hiroshi Senju visits MJLC (Press Release)

A renowned painter whose works have inspired a limited series of Reverso ? eclipses, Mr. Hiroshi Senju paid a visit to the Manufacture on Friday April 7th. After a tour of the brand?s booth at the SIHH in Geneva, the Japanese artist came to admire the work of the Jaeger-LeCoultre artisans in the Vall?e de Joux. This gave him an opportunity to become better acquainted with the world of watches and to discover the enamelling workshops where the paintings inspired by his works were created.

There is doubtless no finer way of revealing the treasures of enamelling than to draw inspiration from the work of a great artist. That is exactly what Jaeger-LeCoultre has done by reproducing, on its ?secret? watch, the Reverso ? ?clipses, the twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac carrying the signature of Japanese artist Hiroshi Senju. He represented Japan for the 46th Venice Biennale in 1995 Venice Biennale honorable mention, and worked as an art producer for Tokyo International Aiport (Haneda) terminal 2 in 2004,and famed for his famous waterfalls painted against a black background, the artiste is also a devotee of watches in general and of the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand in particular. Indeed, his collection includes Master Reveil given him by his father. It was thus a genuine pleasure for the painter to visit the Manufacture and to discover the enamelling workshop where the limited series Reverso ? ?clipses came to life. It also gave him a chance to meet the two enamelling artists of the Manufacture, and to discuss their various techniques, developed and executed by the ?Grande Maison? in the Vall?e de Joux, the only Manufacture to preserve and perfect the entire range of artistic watchmaking professions under its own roof.
