Well, here is my first shot at posting some photos. New Year's Eve was a reflective evening for me; a low-key night with wife and kids. I am a little more than one year into a love affair with fine watches that few people outside of message boards like this would think even remotely sane, let alone understand. I still can't explain how I went from mocking colleagues for spending big bucks on Rolex Daytonas (when all you have to do to know the date and time is look at your cell phone!), to drooling over Pateks, VC's and Langes selling for many times more. All I know, is that when that switch went off in my head - I was a goner!
I have been very fortunate (or unfortunate, depending on how one looks at it) to have the financial means to procure some very nice pieces in a short time. In a way I feel undeserving to have acquired so much so soon, especially after seeing the passion and knowledge evident in the posts of so many in this community. I can only say that I truly appreciate and enjoy each watch I own, from my 5070P to my Omega Aqua Terra. I wear them all and thoroughly enjoy learning about them and the wonderful stories of these great businesses. I have also met some super people as I scour the globe searching for the right piece at the right price.
In the spring I bought a Patek 5159G. this was my first "super-watch" and I seriously questioned my sanity for spending so much money on a single piece. It is an absolute work of art! When I saw it in person for the first time, I literally lost my breath. As you guys know - there is just something about a Patek. A friend of mine who has several Rolexes once said, "Steve, your Pateks look like they could jump right off your wrist and eat my Rolexes anytime they wanted to - but they know they don't have to." I like that thought...
Anyway, I spent last night with my 5159, trying to get some pics as I watched it change over to the new year. Here we go.
Thursday started turning to Friday at about 10:30......

As the magic hour approaches...

And finally...

It was approximately 12:40 when the retrograde date snapped back to 1 and the month clicked over to January. The leap year indicator fliped over right after that.
There you go - my first time up at the plate. Best wishes to all of you for a Happy and blessed New Year and thanks for sharing your knowledge and passion with newbies like me!
