Jays watch fascinated me and I did a little bit of reading up on the movement and still have a question about their description of how the centigraphe works. They say that the centigraphe is powered by the main spring but it is powered through the barrel arbor… I looked at a barrel arbor on the Internet, and there doesn’t seem to be a transmission gear on it. Am I to understand that, in this particular case, they added teeth to the barrel arbor, which functions as a step up or step down and gearing?… Does anyone know?

Yes, it can be stoped anywhere.
But it’s still swinging free from point to point and so is the actual timing precise? It’s a bit of a nonsense question anyway because our reaction time is not quick enough to measure anything 1/100th accurately.
