that rock formation is synonymous with Karuizawa
and marks the entrance to the mountain pass that leads to the resort village... one can see the reflection from the dashboard as bothersome or part of the image. It takes about 2.5 hours to drive from Tokyo with an elevation change of 1,000 meters. . Case...
That view is on the drive back to Tokyo...
about 4:00 PM (7-Dec)... the last photo was taken around 5:00 PM so that's some indication of how early it get's dark here. Nagano is definitely in the mountains ; ) . Casey

With some images I try to resist the urge to 'picture-fy' the photos... it's still difficult for me to leave a slanted horizon, but slowly coming to terms with WYSIWYG in photographic expression. It depends a bit on the image / situation. . Casey

Mt Asama has snow and was quite beautiful...
Unfortunately no time to shoot while on site... 12 hours round trip door-to-door and 5 of that was in the car... The interesting aspect of Karuizawa at this time of year is the almost total lack of foliage... very different look and feel from the summer. ...
