I recently inherited a beautiful Breguet 14K gold pocket watch from 1860-1900 or thereabouts. It has a double back cover and reads "Renversement Breguet", "Migne Droite" and "0,585" inside the outer cover. Classic white dial with Roman numerals, small off-center second hand (I'm sure there's a proper English name for that), no text or logo on the dial. I'd like to know if this is a commonplace or rare item, but I'm more curious about something else...
It's not working.
By opening the inner back cover, I can see that the mechanism seems to be in great shape, but I guess the spring is broken or something similar. I'm pretty sure it hasn't been used for at least 50 years, probably more, so it would be great to see this beautiful timepiece working again.
So the question is: Can I trust my local (reputable) jewelry store to repair this watch, should I look for some kind of Breguet specialist, or is there a particular place in the world for this kind of work?
