Alto ART 01
I saw this watch on social media and followed it down the internet rabbit hole to search for articles and a website. When I got to Geneva a few weeks ago for the Watch Week I realized the Alto team was going to be there, so I made a point of hunting them down in order to meet and get to know them.
I am glad I did. When I finally got to see and wear the watch I was happy to find that it met my high expectations. It’s well made, and feels like a high quality product akin to my AP Re:Master 2. I like modern (and modernist) design, there are angles that clearly also recall the TAG Heuer Monaco V4 by Phillipe Dufour. The beveled sapphire that is part of the case is totally my taste.
Not sure why it’s not showing up in my poor photos, but there is a Seconds hand… and it runs backwards! I think that’s a fun detail because with the exception of New Years Eve I really just use the seconds indicator to show that my watch is running, so backwards is fine. It’s wonderfully confusing when people see the watch for the first time, because something is clearly weird, it’s just not obvious to most people until you say it to them.
The website explains it all better than I do, and it has professional pictures and descriptions. What I love is that Alto is an art-driven brand, something that is very much the driving force in my life. I got one of their 25 watches that are part of this introduction series, so this is obviously a Fan Boy post… but I’m here for it!
