A story...
I know nothing about watches. However I decided this year that it was time I had a "good watch" and would buy one on holiday - possibly spending as much as £1000 !! (Compared to the £40 watches I have always owned)
We were on Med cruise and so stopped at a different place every day and I searched high and low and probably looked at hundreds... but nothing seemed right.
And then I saw it.....
In a tiny jewellers in a back street in Naples.
I couldn't tell you why I liked it - It was very plain and simple - no fancy dials - no gadgets - I just knew "that was the one for me"
But the jewellers was shut and the ship would not wait for me. So I took as many details as I could, and when I got back I looked it up on the internet.
It seems I have good taste - unfortunately about eight times the amount of good taste I can afford!! It was a Patek Philippe Calatrava.
One day I will own one.....one day - after I have paid the three children through University - the weddings - the cars and the house deposits ...... one day.
In the meantime I can dream, and learn more about these fabulous watches
So how do I start?
Where can I find out what all the different code numbers and suffixes mean? If I bought a vintage watch, (which quite appeals) what do i look out for etc etc - Is there a Patek Philippe book of some description
In other words, bearing in mind you are dealing with a total novice - HELP !!!
