A delightful Patek experience...
I haven't posted here often as, for some reason I have not yet been bitten by the Patek bug.....I have been travelling for business and had a day off to roam around Vancouver Canada. Little did I know that I was going to experience a WIS wet dream!
I came across a store with some Patek's in the window. I figured, well this is Canada and they'll probably have only a few basic pieces but I have the time....so I went inside.
Well, I must say that they had Pateks the like of which I have never seen in a shop in NY, FL, LA etc...As I was admiring the watches in the case, I commented to the saleswoman that I was impressed by the variety and case metal options. Never in my life have I seen such an array of complete case metal options for individual models. The 5110 in all 4 metals, the 5053 in three, 5134 in 3. The 5070 sitting there to try on! A year 2000 10 day in YG (Nice!) many, many Calatravas which I am not sure of the refrence for. So I spent some time and tried on a few pieces. I told the woman I had not intention to buy a piece today and she said it was no problem if I spent some time with the watches. She then said the magic words which ALL WIS like to hear.....would you like to see what we have in the safe? I replied, what do you have? She said :goodies!"
So we walked to the safe and she opened the door and pulled out two trays of watches. Some really beautiful diamond ladies pieces, then some really good stuff. A 5970(I think I am wrong on the reference) perpetual calander chronograph in RG & Platnium. I was shocked. The watches were still in their sealed package and box, but it was facinating to actually see the two pieces together. Then she pulled out a 10 day Tourb - blown away again......Then two brand new 5059's, on in YG one in Platnium which I must say has grow quite loveley in my eye. Last but not least, i was able to handle the Celestial watch. What a piece, truly the most unique timepiece I have ever had the pleasure of observing in the metal. The richness of the dial, the way the whole watch forms into the case is mesmerizing. I truly enjoyed wearing that watch.
Well, as I told the saleswoman, I have not intention of buying a watch today, nor the intention of parting with a few hundred thou that I should thank her for her time and kindness and leave. I almost got to the point where I couldn't contain myself. I am in the porcess of waiting for another watch on order, but the thought entered into my mind to just take the leap and buy my first Patek.....who knows, I just may do it but for now, extremely fond memories of a day with Patek in Vancouver.
Thanks for letting me share! I can truly say now that something happened to me and the brand which you all and many many others are truly devoted to. I could be seeing the light
