Hi guys.
I thought I'd post some quick observations from a day out and about in Bangkok.
The first was kind of shocking. An AD had the 5711/1A sitting in the
window, with a 5165, and a couple of Gondolos, and a couple of
perpetuals. Trying to clear old stock with the recent price increase
maybe? Anyhow, there was NO waiting list on the 5711, but the asking
price is kind of amazing. About 4K over MRSP from the May 2008 price
list. And from that one can deduct a 7% VAT refund.
Next up, in another AD, they said they would sell me a 5711 for the
same price as the other AD. And they had some nice perpetuals in stock
too, in various metals, but I was really only starting to get
interested in the 5711.
Now, we all know that this situation is not uncommon in Asia. For
certain references, a premium is commanded, even expected, which is
sad. This almost never happens in Europe or the US where list is list
and that is what people pay, but may only be 'given' a popular
reference if one has spent sufficiently in the past.
Now back to the rambling point... would I be out of my mind to call my bank and get a temporary credit rise?
And what the heck is a 5711 doing in a window display?? don't they all run out the door?? if they ever see one??
ANd I mean, one never ever sees a Daytona stainless in a display cabinet, let alone a 5711...
What is wrong with this picture???
