Mark in Paris initiates a compelling discussion on the cyclical nature of watch fashion, specifically questioning the prevailing preference for rose gold over yellow gold. His post challenges the notion that yellow gold is 'old-fashioned,' suggesting a potential resurgence in its appeal. This exploration into horological trends invites collectors to reconsider their perceptions and share their own evolving tastes.
That is what we read or even think. Most of us, if we were considering buying a RG or a YG watch today would choose the first one (WG or Pt is not what this post is about). We all know that fashion, marketing have an impact on our tastes, more or less.
Nearly everything is a question of cycles: style, economy, colors, music, architecture etc...
Thus, why not a return to YG? It certainly will one day, even if I would not bet on a complete reversal of the interest compared with RG.
The more we see something everywhere the more we have a chance to be tired of it, leading in looking for something else. As years go by, we may be attracted by what most of us never knew, except when reading books or watching movies: style from any far away century, any civilization or, closer to us, from the 20's, 40's, 50's etc...
Each couple of decade may be a source of inspiration of what could satisfy our thirst for beautiful objects and style.
Some brands still propose YG watches, some more than others (Patek for instance) but it's not the main volume sold.
What do you think today of YG? "Never" or "Maybe"?
I was realizing that YG could be back in my tastes when I looked closer to the PP5170 or Horo's beautiful YG Richard Lange. A clearer lighting, warmer, more rare, could be words I could use to describe YG's interest.
If Yellow Gold could speak I'm sure it would say: "I'll be back"
I'm curious to read your opinion about YG, and post pictures please if you have!
Have a great week everyone.
Cheers,
Mark
If I'm allowed to, I'd like to post some pictures I love from our fellow purists (if any problem please tell me of course
)

To me it is a "maybe". I caught myself admiring a classic Rolex President in yellow gold with a salmon dial a couple of days ago and the Royal Oak Chrono, or the Perpetual in yellow gold is one of my favorites, even if some will see it as a "bling". Besides, I would buy the PP 5170J in a blink of an eye if my current budget would allow. So, yes! I am sure that yellow gold is slowly getting back. Radone
They come and go. When people are getting tired of pink, yellow will become the dominant color again. However, I find pink gold more subtle, more "appropriate" to the current economy. It is definitely not as loud or flamboyant as yellow gold. I personally think pink gold watches will continue to outsell yellow gold ones for quite some time. JMHO. Blue
and it's hard for us to know how much we are really affected by the perceptions and pronouncements of the taste-influencers. Of course, the gold colors themselves come in a wide variety of shades and sometimes it is the interplay between the shade of the gold, the color and type of dial, etc. etc. I prefer rose gold. Although the phrase "buying yellow gold Rolex" never occurred to me before I saw this one, about 3 years back this one jumped into my watch box :) To me, this would be the quintesse
i highly think so...the charm and appeal of pure yellow gold. below an old picture from a wristscan friday last year. best, Horo
i think yellow gold will come back.....just like all things in fashion, bell bottoms and flares made a come back a decade ago and now the hipsters with colors from the 80's...so its just a matter of time but like you and the few others, i find myself liking yellow gold watches lately. I knew I was convinced a couple of months back, when i saw in the wild, a lady wearing yellow gold Daytona....what a sexy beast.
Could be an age thing, but i can't get into a full gold piece right now. TT is as far as i'll go. Sadly, i can't pull off RG either, must be my skin tone and what not, so i'm pretty much stuck with WG/Pt/SS. I love RG though, the warmness is mesmerizing.
