It is opposite the 12 and they are both right side up to each other. Now comes the part where I could be completely off, but maybe not. In order to read 1 o'clock through 5 o'clock as if you were seeing them straight on, you'd tilt your head to the right. At 6 o'clock you see it straight on. Then from 7 o'clock to 11 o'clock the head tilts to the left to see each hour straight on. The numbers around the dial being up right or continuing around upside down. Personally I prefer the upright but I think I was in the minority or great unwashed group. LOL
...this is why I don't like numbers to be 'flipped' on dials...
