Mohannad (aka Riddler) sparks a vibrant discussion comparing new Vacheron Constantin Overseas models, particularly the blue and black dial variants, with the iconic Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15202. His post, featuring side-by-side photos, invites the community to weigh in on whether these Overseas references could achieve 'hot steel' status.

The best chance 2b a superstar ! Will see what brings Basel.
The overseas is finally getting the recognition it deserves. As nice as the gen 3 is I still prefer my gen 2 74047. I like the textured dial more than the sunburst. I do like the fact that they dropped it 1mm and you can’t argue the sapphire caseback and strap options with that new easy system. Go for it!!!! VC is evolving while AP is stagnant IMO. For as nice the Royal Oak is I feel it is a bit outdated (some say “timeless “). Time to hop aboard the Overseas train!!!!
it's one of only two watches that ever got me a compliment by a non-watch-person. I think that the blue and black Versions have completely different characters. I didn't like the blue Version, but think the black one is fantastic. For others it's different
And I believe that, given the good quality compared to many watches in high demand, they are hugely under rated. Honestly, I would buy one instead of paying a premium on a Submariner, be it a Hulk, or a Sea Dweller. They put the owner in a distinctive area of aficionados. Besides, you have a Geneva Seal on them. R
However it is not easy to know if this view is heavily biased by everything else I see and read about the other two (RO and Nautilus) and the general preference among the collector community for those over the Overseas or if I'm truely not attracted by the design and this is a purely unbiased and independent assessment. It'd be interesting to conduct a survey with some non watch people and ask them to choose among the Overseas, RO and Nautilus.
The chronograph in particular. Beautifully finished and very comfortable on the wrist. Given the in-house movement I think I'd choose it over the ROC.
