Battle of Overseas:

  • First generation Overseas ref. 42052 - 35 x 7 mm steel case - Center rotor caliber 1311 (according to Ben Dunn on Watchbrotherslondon)
  • Third generation Self-Winding Ultra-Thin Overseas ref. 2500V/220P-H028 - 39,5 x 7,35 mm platinum case - Micro-rotor caliber 2550

Which one for you

I think I personally prefer the more rounded shape of the case (and its more compact size) of the first generation.

Best, Emmanuel

About the Vacheron Constantin Toledo Ref. 42052

The Vacheron Constantin Toledo reference 42052 is part of the first generation of the Overseas collection, distinguished by its more rounded case shape compared to later iterations. This reference represents an early expression of Vacheron Constantin's sport watch design, offering a distinct aesthetic within the broader Toledo family. Its design cues set it apart from subsequent Overseas models, appealing to collectors who appreciate the initial vision for the line.

This particular reference features a steel case measuring 35 mm in diameter and 7 mm in thickness. It is equipped with the self-winding caliber 1311, which incorporates a center rotor. The crystal protecting the dial is sapphire, ensuring durability and clarity. The construction of the case and movement reflects the manufacturing standards of its era.

For collectors, the 42052 holds significance as the progenitor of a prominent Vacheron Constantin collection. Its compact size and specific case geometry appeal to those who prefer a more understated wrist presence. The presence of the caliber 1311 further defines its place in the brand's horological history, making it a point of interest for enthusiasts tracing the evolution of the Overseas line.

generation so far, I like the case shape, the bracelet and the fact that after all these years the watch design wise holds pretty well, my only gripe is the date window, for me, a small date as an only complication ruins the dial, doesn’t matter its position.

I also prefer the case shape of the first generation, but not the logo, date window or bracelet... If only we could have the best of both worlds!

But one is way too small the other way too expensive So none But only considering the looks both are lovely

But, in this case I prefer the salmon dial of the third generation versus the copper dial of the first iteration. That being said, I would definitely need to see them at hand.

As I just find the look far more appealing and whilst I'm at it sorry but a 7.35mm thin watch is not Ultra Thin watch. Marc

And, yes, the logo could be improved. The bracelet also, maybe, but I'm not sure if I prefer the one from the 3rd gen. Best, Emmanuel
