TeutonicCarFan's acquisition of a Vacheron Constantin Chronometer Royal Ref. 4907 from the esteemed Les Collectionneurs program marks a significant foray into vintage horology. This article explores the allure of a 1957 timepiece, highlighting the critical role of provenance and expert restoration in building collector confidence. TeutonicCarFan's personal journey into colored metals and vintage aesthetics provides a compelling narrative for those considering similar additions to their collections.

Excited to present this vacheron constantin chronometer royal ref 4907 from the les collectionneurs program which hails from 1957. During our recent wrist scan I mentioned my next target was going to be a colored metal watch and guessed at a JLC reverso or a VC tradionelle 38mm filling that spot. As I cruised our collector market (dangerous), I came across this and everything came into place...

This watch is a departure for me, as I have never purchased a vintage piece like this (I do have a vintage omega I got apx 12 years ago), however, there was a lot going for it. Firstly, I love center sweep seconds, and I love VC. My first watch forum memories were about watches like this on places like the hour lounge back in the mid 2000s. Also, going into colored metals, I thought going for vintage and smaller would work out better. At 35mm it wears larger due to the large lug and the expansive dial.

Also beautiful slim profile and lug design

As someone who knows very little about vintage, I was discounting getting one because it is hard to know the provenance. Quite frankly easy to be douped. This is where les collectionneurs comes into play... a VC that was restored at VC HQ... that set me at ease. This piece was purchased in 2019. The previous owner was someone I had followed on here and other forums. Looks the same...

Just to be sure, Christian signed off on it πŸ‘πŸ‘

Overall condition is excellent for this vintage, and I look forward to getting to know this piece. The caseback, and buckle are superb and the strap looks almost new (and VC hallmarked). I also add my other vintage watch... a 1954 omega

I love the shape of the hands and those hour markers, and the &

With its much younger relative

For now, happy to foray into a yellow gold watch. Plan to get a green strap and maybe a tweed style? Also can't forget the amazing movement cal 1008BS...

Thanks for following along, Kevin

A gorgeous dress piece with a lot of character from the golden era of VC. And with that provenance - it simply doesn't get better.
