Rare are watches which can be really called novelties. More of them only have different dials and colors or metal iterations.

The Tudor Monarch is truly a new watch. New case, new dial, new look, new spirit... For a new pleasure!

" Born to dare " is Tudor's new motto, I would say " Born to have fun " is another one which could work very well, too. This " wave "  of freshness is as rare as it is pleasant, nowadays.

The only thing which is not new here is, movement apart, the name, as this designation existed in the Tudor catalogue in the 90's, for time only and chronographs, with a typical, and to be honest, not very appealing look from this era.

The brand new Monarch is a totally different watch, with both the case and the dial playing the neo retro / modern registers.

The steel case is faceted, blending polished and satin finishings, with good proportions: 39 mm big, 11, 9 mm high ( sapphire glass included ). I can add that, in real, the Monarch looks a bit smaller, and that I find its case really charming, mixing sensuality and strength. It has the good taste to be water resistant to 100 meters, which will allow you to wear it in every circumstances of life, formal or casual, as this Monarch is very versatile.

The dial is champagne colored, with " California " applied numeral hour markers and indices, which they call error-proof, which means arabic and roman numbers. The finishing is vertically brushed. The look is qualitative and charming.

As for the movement, it is the Cal MT5662, automatic, with a power reserve of 65 hours, but the most interesting is that it is COSC and METAS certified, which offers to this watch a great accuracy ( better than the COSC ) and a resistance to 15, 000 Gauss. It is also pleasant to the eye, with traditional finishes ( Côtes de Genève and Perlage ).

One word about the bracelet: I am not a bracelet fan, but to be honest, here it works. Especially due to the angular shape of the case.

This Tudor Monarch is well born. And I am pretty sure, or better said, I wish that it will be developed as a family product, with different dials, complications and sizes.

I will go farther, The Monarch is one of my very rare coup de coeur from this Watches and Wonders Edition, and the price is still fair, for what it is: 5,400 Euros VAT included.

And, as I said, it is a real novelty!

Looking forward to reading your comments and thoughts,

Best.

...but don't need 'Master Chronometer' or the shield at 12...

but I'm curious to see how the dimensions will work (or not) on a wrist like mine: 39 x 11,9 mm in the Tudor way is probably too bulky, but I might be wrong. Chopard's Alpine Eagle measures 41 x 9,7 mm and it's surprisingly wearable even on a smaller wrist like mine, but Tudor watches have a very different feel on the wrist and their thickness (almost 12 mm here!) isn't something I like. I'll reserve my judgement until I can see it in the metal. Thanks for the review! Best, Emmanuel

I was able to see this watch at the local Tudor boutique and really liked it. Really great finishing as we have come to expect from the brand ! The dial color, although very nice, was however not for me and I would wait to see for Tudor releasing other variants in the future.

Why? Because, from my perspective, so many things simply come together here: the construction, the fresh idea behind it, the beautiful design, and also the fair price-to-value proposition. I had the chance to see the watch during Watches and Wonders, and I was genuinely impressed. For me, it is one of the standout releases of this year’s fair, alongside the Ulysse Nardin Super Freak, the Armin Strom minute repeater, and (ok, I am … „special“) the IWC Ceralume. Of course, these watches are in com

I liked it the moment I saw it a few weeks ago. As you mentioned it is a fresh new design and belongs on the bracelet, I specially like the shape of the center links. If I may be a bit picky I would have liked that the crown could have had a bit the shape of the center links, the side of the crown where they have engraved the name Tudor Monarch is very flat and would have looked better if it had a bit more width to it in the shape of a two or four facet pyramid, do I make any sense? I was smitten by the first images of it coming out of W&W and have since been visiting ADs here regularly (sometimes several a day) in hopes of seeing it in the metal and possibly snaring one. No luck yet, but reading your thoughts just now has redoubled my determination ! : )
